Berlin, July 16, AZERTACTV Berlin, a television channel based in the German capital, broadcast an extensive reportage on Azerbaijan-Germany relations.The report noted that Azerbaijan, located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, has become increasingly important for Germany and Europe in recent years in terms of energy security, trade, transport and regional stability. In this regard, the author emphasized the importance of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s recent visit to Baku, noting that during the European Commission President’s visit, the sides discussed the expansion of cooperation in energy, transport, digital infrastructure and regional connectivity.The report highlighted the dynamic development of Azerbaijan-Germany relations, emphasizing that the political dialogue between the two countries has reached a new milestone in recent years.The author mentioned that President Ilham Aliyev has visited Germany five times since 2023, including twice to Berlin at the invitation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and third time to attend the Munich Security Conference. The report also underlined that in April of last year, Frank-Walter Steinmeier made history as the first German President to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan.The author hailed the South Caucasus as a pivotal geopolitical bridge connecting Europe, the Caspian Sea, and Central Asia, saying that Azerbaijan’s unique geography offers unique opportunities for expanding cooperation and strengthening stability in the region.The author particularly underlined that the Middle Corridor has become as a key transit route for cargo between Europe and Central Asia, underscoring that reliable and alternative logistics lines are of strategic importance for an export-oriented economy like Germany.Describing the energy cooperation as one of the key areas of partnership, the author said that in the wake of the Russia–Ukraine war, Europe accelerated its energy source diversification, prompting Azerbaijan to boost its natural gas exports to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor from approximately 8 billion cubic meters annually before the war to 13 billion cubic meters.The author emphasized that Azerbaijan, with its growing investments in wind and solar energy, is positioning itself to become a significant player in future green energy corridors connecting the Caspian region with Europe. This partnership does not create a new dependence for Germany, rather, it actively diversifies its energy sources and strengthens national energy security.The author also highlighted the ongoing efforts towards the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, noting that these developments open up new avenues for regional cooperation. The report described the initialing of the peace agreement in Washington in August 2025 as a milestone diplomatic achievement vital to ensuring long-term stability in the South Caucasus.The report also mentioned that Germany is Azerbaijan's largest trading partner in the South Caucasus, with over 200 German companies operating in the fields of mechanical engineering, construction, logistics, energy, and services across the country.The report quoted Azerbaijani Ambassador to Germany Nasimi Aghayev as saying: "Energy security, economic stability, strengthening connectivity between Asia and Europe, and reliable supply chains occupy an important place in the Germany-Azerbaijan cooperation. All this brings great benefits to our citizens and economies."The report concluded by noting that in the ever-changing geopolitical environment, cooperation between Germany and Azerbaijan goes far beyond the energy sector.
