


Speaker Sahiba Gafarova addresses ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly meeting

On July 22, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis delivered an online address at the 17th Meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Caucus themed “The Role of Parliament in Strengthening ASEAN Centrality in Navigating Complex Global Challenges”.
In her remarks, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova noted that in the modern world, states are closely collaborating with each other, and no state can address global challenges alone.
According to her, advancing peace, security, sustainable development, climate action, food, and energy security is only possible through joint efforts.
In this regard, the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker stressed the importance of effective multilateral cooperation, grounded in international law, equal dialogue, as well as mutually beneficial cooperation.
She noted that Azerbaijan places great emphasis on cooperation with the ASEAN as an observer parliament in the AIPA, while also adding that the country is committed to fostering dialogue with the ASEAN member states.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova further described the parliamentary diplomacy as a crucial tool for enhancing mutual trust, advancing dialogue, and addressing global challenges through peaceful means, adding that Azerbaijan remains committed to the effective cooperation, grounded in international law, sovereign equality of states, and mutual trust.
