


Organizing Committee for 2027 FIFA U-15 and U-20 Men's World Cups convenes for meeting

On August 5, the Organizing Committee established for the hosting of the 2027 FIFA U-20 Men's World Cup in Azerbaijan convened a meeting to discuss preparations and upcoming tasks.
Following the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 27 July 2026 assigning responsibility for organizing the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival to the same Organizing Committee, the meeting began with a review of preparations for the event and the tasks ahead.
Opening the meeting, Samir Sharifov, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Chair of the Organizing Committee, emphasized that Azerbaijan will host the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival on October 22-31, 2026.
He noted that hosting the prestigious and large-scale international sporting event reflects the high level of international confidence in Azerbaijan, as well as highlights President Ilham Aliyev's unwavering commitment and attention to the advancement of sport and the country's growing role in the global sporting community.
It was noted that more than 175 countries are expected to take part in the event, each with a 20-member delegation. As FIFA's first-ever youth competition, it is designed to support talent development at the highest international level.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for the 2027 FIFA U-20 Men's World Cup, to be co-hosted by Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. It was mentioned that the tournament will feature 24 national teams, while consultations with FIFA and the Uzbekistan Football Association on the host cities are ongoing.
The meeting included detailed discussions on organizational issues related to the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Relevant state bodies were tasked with ensuring the timely implementation of Presidential directives, while specific measures were set to strengthen interagency coordination and address organizational matters related to both international events.
