


Azerbaijani athlete gets off to successful start at 2026 U17 World Wrestling Championships

Greco-Roman wrestler Omar Salmanov secured Azerbaijan's first medal at the U-17 World Wrestling Championships on home soil, winning bronze.
Salmanov defeated Georgia's Giorgi Chikvadze 7-1 in the bronze medal bout to secure a place on the podium.
On July 28, Orkhan Habibli (65kg) will battle for bronze, while Isfahan Hasanov (80kg) will compete for gold medals.
Hosted at the National Gymnastics Arena, the championship features over 700 junior wrestlers from up to 60 countries, including 29 athletes representing Azerbaijan.
