


Speaker of the Parliament of Zimbabwe: We attach importance to the development of relations with Azerbaijan

Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Jacob Mudenda, Speaker of the National Assembly of Zimbabwe, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Zimbabwe first toured the plenary session hall of the Milli Majlis.
A one-on-one meeting was then held between the Speaker of the Milli Majlis and the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zimbabwe.
Following the meeting, the guests visited the Heydar Aliyev Museum in the Milli Majlis, where Jacob Mudenda signed the Guest Book.
During the meeting, the sides hailed the political relations between Azerbaijan and Zimbabwe and highlighted favorable opportunities for further expanding bilateral cooperation in various areas. They recalled the Zimbabwean President’s state visit to Azerbaijan, noting that productive discussions had been held between the two heads of state during that visit.
Highlighting the fruitful cooperation between the two countries within the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and other international platforms, Sahiba Gafarova noted that during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan paid special attention to strengthening both bilateral and multilateral relations with member states, as well as promoting common interests at the international level. She emphasized that this policy is being successfully continued today.
During the conversation, the speakers praised the development of relations between the legislative bodies. Sahiba Gafarova fondly recalled the participation of the Speaker of the Parliament of Zimbabwe in the Parliamentary Meeting, co-organized with the Inter-Parliamentary Union within the framework of COP29 held in Baku, as well as the discussions held during that visit. She also highlighted the importance of the meetings held on the sidelines of the 11th G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit (P20) in South Africa last year and the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul this April. The Azerbaijani Speaker noted that such contacts make an important contribution to further deepening relations between the two countries’ parliaments.
Emphasizing that interparliamentary cooperation plays an important role in developing bilateral and multilateral relations, the parties highlighted the importance of intensifying contacts between parliamentary working groups operating within the two legislatures and further strengthening cooperation between parliamentary committees.
During the meeting, Sahiba Gafarova stated that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to cooperation with Zimbabwe within international parliamentary organizations. She underlined that regular contacts are maintained within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN), noting favorable opportunities for further expanding cooperation on these platforms.
Speaker of the National Assembly of Zimbabwe Jacob Mudenda expressed his satisfaction with his official visit to Azerbaijan and his visit to the Milli Majlis, sharing his positive impressions of the rapid development of Baku in recent years.
Recalling that he had visited the Alley of Honors and Victory Park during his stay, Jacob Mudenda said it was an honor to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
Noting that Zimbabwe attaches great importance to the development of relations with Azerbaijan and that political ties between the two countries are at a high level, the Speaker of the Parliament stressed that promoting the principles of multilateralism shared by both countries and strengthening cooperation based on international law are of great importance to global peace and stability. He also shared his views on the importance of expanding economic cooperation.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
