Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress is up for auction

Baku, August 9, AZERTAC

One of Hollywood’s most memorable dresses is on the market. Up for auction, with the current first bid sitting at $10,000 (£7,8484.50) - though, it’s expected to fetch between $200,000 (£156,979) and $300,000 (£235,468.50) - is the pink couture Givenchy dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, according to Metro.co.uk.
The iconic film, in which Hepburn’s outfits exude elegance, is a movie classic - hence the high price this dress is expected to sell for.
It’s being sold through Julien’s Auctions, featured in their Legends: Hollywood & Royalty auction.
The dress has a fitted bodice with a scoop neckline, princess seams and a tulip-skirt.
According to Diet Prada, a fashion commentary account run by Tony Liu and Lindsey Schuyler, Hubert de Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn ‘had a legendary working relationship’.
He designed most of her costumes and her personal clothes too.
This pink dress is considered by them to be the ‘second most iconic piece from the film’, after the black Givenchy dress everyone knows and recognises.
It’s made from pink silk organza and has embroidered tassels all over that glimmer.
Diet Prada wrote: ‘It’s been up for auction before, selling at Christie’s back in 2007 for $192,000, but in the years since, costumes have hit historic auction prices.
‘The white and black Cecil Beaton dress Hepburn wore in My Fair Lady sold for $4.4 million in 2017, likely the second most expensive costume ever auctioned.
‘The first is Marilyn Monroe’s white halter dress from The Seven Year Itch ($4.5 million in 2011) and while not a costume, the dress she wore to sing Happy Birthday to JFK became the most expensive dress ever sold when it went for $4.8 million in 2016.’
