Tupac Shakur's gold crown ring sells for record price after huge underestimation

Baku, July 27, AZERTAC

Tupac Shakur's gold ring, which is encrusted and adorned with diamonds and rubies, has just sold at a New York auction for an eye-watering figure, according to The Mirror.
Breaking records, the ring sold for a whopping $1 million (£772K) on Tuesday after it had a pre-sale estimate of a much lower figure. The winning bid ended up putting Sotheby's estimate to shame after they said it would likely fetch between $200,000 (£154K) and $300,000 (£232K).
The striking and very chunky ring engraved with the words and year "Pac & Dada 1996" - which is a reference to his girlfriend Kidada Jones - has an elaborate crown on the top of it which is adorned in gems and shimmering with gold.
The iconic piece of jewellery is said to have marked a new phase in Tupac's life as he abandoned his "Thug Life" persona following a stint in prison. According to the auction house, the ring - that Tupac is said to have spent months designing - has now become the most valuable hip-hop artifact ever sold.
Tupac's godmother, Yaasmyn Fula, who is the person who sold the ring, explained that it served as a "powerful" symbol of responsibility.
She said: "Tupac thought of himself and his creativity as a tool of expressing injustice and love. That message has been carried on with a lot of artists to this day that give him acknowledgement and say how much he inspired them."
Tupac, who died on September 13 when he was 25 in 1996, wore the ring when he attended the MTV Video Music Awards on September 4, which happened to be his last ever public appearance. The rapper was tragically shot dead by an unidentified assailant in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada.
