From Bandung to Baku: The Non-Aligned Movement in a Changing and Challenging Global Context

Organized by the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) a conference themed “From Bandung to Baku: The Non-Aligned Movement in a Changing and Challenging Global Context" has been held in Baku.
Addressing the event, Chairman of the Board of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) Farid Shafiyev noted Azerbaijan`s important initiatives in the Non-Aligned Movement, saying that during its chairmanship of NAM, a number of important steps have been taken by the country`s leadership and institutionalization process was launched in the NAM.
Speaking at the event, Denis Summut, Director at LINKS Europe, highlighted the importance of NAM members for Europe, saying that they are collaborating with their colleagues from Azerbaijan and will gather for the next event in Hague in October 2023.
Following the speeches, the conference featured panels sessions on “Global Security and Economic Challenges: Role of the Non-Aligned Movement”, “Empowering the Non-Aligned Movement as a Global Actor: Institutionalization and Other Initiatives” and “Conceptual issues and the future of the Non-Aligned Movement".
The speakers at the panel sessions included AIR Center Chairman of Board Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs and Former Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdel Hay El-Orabi, Board member at AIR Center Esmira Jafarova, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies of the Institute of International relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Shiri Shiriyev, as well as Head of Department at AIR Center Vasif Huseynov, Head of Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Mahur Gasimov, Assistant professor at Leiden University Maja Vodopivec and Deputy Director at the Center for Studies of the South Caucasus – CSSC Fuad Chiragov.
The speakers highlighted the importance of NAM as one of the largest international organizations in the world, which brings like-minded people together, and noted the importance of the Bandung Principles in this regard.
