Baku remembers Khojaly genocide victims

Thirty-one years have passed since the Khojaly genocide, one of the bloodiest tragedies in our history. In connection with the anniversary of the horrific massacre, people come to the Khojaly genocide memorial in Khatai district of Baku on February 26. Starting from the morning, thousands of people have been paying tribute to the victims of the tragedy by placing flowers in front of the monument. Representatives of various institutions and organizations, Karabakh war veterans, people of all ages, including schoolchildren, are among those coming to the memorial.
This years, along with the feelings of utmost sadness, those of enormous pride are experienced. The valiant Azerbaijani army has liberated Karabakh from the enemy, the territorial integrity of our country has been restored, and the blood of our martyrs and the victims of the Khojaly massacre has been avenged.
In interviews with AZERTAC, those visiting the memorial say that they will never forget this tragedy, curse the Armenian fascists, and demand that the perpetrators of the terrible genocide will answer before the court of justice.
The commemoration also aims to draw the attention of the international community to this brutal act of genocide. This is a crime against humanity and the world must recognize the Khojaly tragedy as an act of genocide.
We recall that in the early hours of February 26, 1992, Armenian armed forces attacked the city of Khojaly with the help of the 366th motorized rifle regiment of the former USSR and brutally massacred the civilian population. A total of 613 residents of the city, including 63 children and 106 women were brutally murdered, 1,275 people were taken prisoner and tortured. The fate of 197 of them is still unknown. A total of 5,379 residents of Khojaly were forcibly expelled from the city, eight families were completely destroyed, 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one of their parents.
