Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler Murad Hagverdiyev (45 kg) in Group A defeated Russian rival Eldar Asakaev at the 15th Summer European Youth Olympic Festival.
The wrestling competitions are held at the Heydar Aliyev Sports Palace.
The first day of the competitions features both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.
During the three-day wrestling competitions Azerbaijan’s hopes will be pinned on 6 freestyle, 6 Greco-Roman and 6 women wrestlers.
Wrestling joined the sport programme for the first time in the EYOF history.
