SPE Stavanger recognizes six award winners

The SPE Oilman of the Year award went to Island Offshore for their important role in increasing the profitability on the NCS through Light Well Intervention.
Young Engineer of the Year: Rufat Babayev (Statoil) – Azerbaijan`s young engineer Rufat received this award due to his accomplishments with regards to design, production, qualification and installation of an Inverted Gas Lift System (IGLS) for wells with low bottom hole pressure. This technology extends the lifetime of the production wells.
PhD Student of the Year: Mahmoud Khalifeh (UiS) - Mahmoud completed his PhD May 2016 and has since been working with materials optimized for P&A operations, more specifically geopolymers as a substitute for conventional cement. Through his short career Mahmoud has already sent 2 applications for patents, written 2 books, published 5 articles and presented at conferences 8 times.
Master Student of the Year: Håkon Sunde Bakka (UiS) - Håkon started his bachelors degree in Petroleum Engineering 2011 and will submit his master thesis in Reservoir Engineering within a couple of weeks. Through his engineering studies, Håkon scored grade A in all his 32 classes. He was part of the SPE Stavanger chapter's PetroBowl team for 2 years, last year as the team captain.
Bachelor Student of the Year: Ivar Wathne Oftedal (UiS) - Ivar is an outstanding Petroleum Engineering student with a GPA of A in his recently completed bachelor's degree. Prior to the engineering program, Ivar completed a year of Mathematics classes at NTNU. For the past 3 years he has worked part time at UiS as a mentor and is now a project manager for inspiring youth to choose natural sciences as a way of career.
