Telecom companies to test 5G connections in the Netherlands

Baku, August 23, AZERTAC

Huawei, Ericsson, TNO and telecom provider KPN will perform tests with 5G connections in the north of Groningen, the Netherlands. Next Tuesday the companies will sign a contract, after which the project will be clear to go. The test won’t be aimed at consumers, but will instead focus on businesses.
According to Dutch tech site Tweakers, it’s unknown when the test will start, how long it will take and what the goals are. Telecom companies are focusing on reducing latency with 5G. Doing this should make real-time applications possible. This includes transmitting signals to self-driving cars. The speed of 5G will be higher than that of 4G as well, of course. Other possible new features might include streaming Virtual-Reality images and holding video business meetings, which both require high resolutions.
5G is expected to arrive for the masses after 2022.
