Baku, May 21, AZERTAC Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade has met Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad bin Ameen Madani, ISESCO Director General Abdulaziz bin Othman Altwaijri and UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations Nassir Abdulaziz Al- Nasser who are visiting Azerbaijan.Officials including Milli Majlis deputies, heads of the religious confessions in Azerbaijan, Chairman of the US-based Foundation for Ethnic Understanding Rabbi Marc Schneier were also present at the meeting.Pashazade highlighted what has been done to preserve and promote moral values in Azerbaijan, and strengthen government-religion interaction. He noted that “for many centuries members of various religious confessions have lived in peace” in the country. “Xenophobia and religious conflicts have never been observed in Azerbaijan,” he added.Pashazade said: “Unlike Soviet era, in years of independence a large number of mosques were constructed in Azerbaijan. We also have churches and synagogues. All this was possible thanks to policy of national leader Heydar Aliyev, which is today successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.”The chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office noted that the Azerbaijani government attaches particular emphasis to preserving and developing historical and cultural heritage. “Azerbaijan is known worldwide as an example of multiculturalism and tolerance.
