Moroccan newspaper Al Islah writes about January 20 tragedy

Rabat, January 19, AzerTAc

Moroccan newspaper Al Islah has published an article on the January 20 tragedy.
The author said on January 19-20, 1990, the soviet army and Armenian armed forces shot civilian residents in Baku. 147 people, including children were killed, hundreds wounded and arrested.
The day after the tragedy national leader Heydar Aliyev came to permanent representation of Azerbaijan in Moscow, and held a press conference overtly condemning the Soviet leadership`s actions against the Azerbaijani people. The national leader said Mikhail Gorbachov was a man behind the crime.
The author noted that after Heydar Aliyev`s return to power for the second time, a political assessment was given to the 20 tragedy, and that date was declared as the National Day of Mourning.
Touching upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the author mentioned international organizations have repeatedly criticised Armenian aggressive policy, and despite adoption of a number of resolutions Armenians still continue this policy.
The author stressed the international community, including Morocco condemn Armenia`s aggressive policy against Azerbaijan, adding Azerbaijan, in turn, highly appreciated the friendly ties with official Rabat.
The author underlined official Baku demands the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the territorial integrity and to respect relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.
The author said the commemorative events on the occasion of the January 20 tragedy are being held in not only Azerbaijan, but also in other foreign countries, adding hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis visit the Alley of Martyrs in that day.
