PACE co-rapporteurs visit Caucasian Muslims office

Baku, June 13 (AzerTAc). Co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for Azerbaijan Pedro Agramunt and Joseph Debono Grech have visited the Caucasian Muslims Office to discuss issues of religious tolerance and interdenominational relations.
The meeting was attended by Bishop of the Baku and Azerbaijani Diocese of Russian Orthodox Church, Chairman of the Mountain Jews community of Azerbaijan Milih Evdayev, as well as Gennadiy Zelmanovich, Chairman of the Baku Religious Community of European Jews and Head of the Catholic Church in Baku Vladimir Fekete and Head of the Albanian-Udin Christian Community Robert Mobili.
During the meeting, Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade updated the guests on relations existing between the religion and the government of Azerbaijan, adding “people of different nationalities, different religions and cultures live in peace and tranquillity in Azerbaijan and show respect to each other.” He also spoke of the importance of religious and ethnic tolerance founded by national leader Heydar Aliyev in the country.
On Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Pashazade said this problem must be peacefully solved as part of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Heads of the religious confessions underlined Azerbaijan presents example of religious tolerance to the world community.
PACE co-rapporteurs hailed meetings with the heads of various religious confessions and atmosphere of tolerance in Azerbaijan.
