FAO AND AZERBAIJAN SEAL IDP CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT

Baku, June 22 (AzerTAc). Azeri Minister of Agriculture Ismat Abbasov and FAO representative in Azerbaijan Mustafa Sinaser have signed agreement on implementation of the second phase of project on “Capacity building in rural development for internally displaced persons (IDP) and refugees in new settlements of Agdam region of Azerbaijan”.
The three-year project is financed by government of Azerbaijan and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
Aim of the project is to implement measures to improve living conditions of families displaced from the Agdam and other regions and temporarily placed in camps and wagons as well as reach out to a large number of beneficiaries and provide the grounds for sustainability of income generation for IDPs and local farmers.
Minister Abbasov said the government of Azerbaijan implements 3 regional and 4 national projects with FAO, which positively influence on development of agriculture in Azerbaijan.
Swiss Ambassador to Azerbaijan Alain Guidetti said the project would promote the boosting of cooperation between the two countries. Total value of the project is 1, 750, 000 dollars, of which 15 percent falls at Azerbaijan, and 85 percent to the government of Switzerland.
Mr. Sinaser said IDPs and refugees make up 80% of the population covered by the project. The project will be implemented in 22 new settlements of Agdam region, he added.
