UN Under-Secretary-General: Public institutions worldwide face an unprecedented test

Baku, November 5, AZERTAC
“Public institutions worldwide face an unprecedented test, meeting urgent and immediate needs while anticipating a rapidly changing nature. Interconnected crises, from climate shocks and demographic shifts to economic volatility and rapid technological development, are testing the limits of our institutions,” said Li Junhua, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, as he addressed the summit on the theme "UN Governance Innovation Summit: Advancing Future-Ready Institutions" held in Baku.
“Citizens from across the world are asking for more amidst the greater complexity and resource constraints. They expect the institutions you represent are more responsive, effective, and immediate, and trust more with the governments that not only address immediate crises but proactively anticipate future risks as well as opportunities,” he noted.
“Against this backdrop, progress towards sustainable development remains a very high theme. As the SDG Report 2026 of the United Nations reveals, achieving the 2030 Agenda really demands accelerated actions from all sectors, from all players,” the UN official emphasized.
