Azerbaijan and Albania explore new opportunities to strengthen tourism ties
Baku, October 16, AZERTAC
With its rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and growing tourism opportunities, Azerbaijan continues to expand its international partnerships, creating new opportunities for travelers to discover the country. Building on the established cooperation between the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) and the Albanian National Tourism Agency, Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, met with Jola Hysaj, General Director of the Albanian National Tourism Agency, and Besart Kadia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Albania to the Republic of Azerbaijan, on October 14 to explore joint initiatives, strengthen connectivity between the two destinations, and discuss ways to encourage greater tourism exchange.
The meeting built on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Azerbaijan Tourism Board and the Albanian National Tourism Agency on June 21, 2025. The agreement established a long-term framework for collaboration, with an initial five-year term and automatic renewal for a further five years. It laid the foundation for strengthening tourism ties, sharing expertise, and promoting the diverse travel experiences offered by both countries.
During the discussions, the sides explored opportunities to develop joint tourism activities in 2027, with a particular focus on improving connectivity between the destinations and encouraging greater travel exchange. The meeting also highlighted the potential for closer cooperation in destination promotion, knowledge-sharing, and engagement among tourism stakeholders, helping to develop more accessible and appealing travel experiences for visitors to both countries.
The partnership also reflected a shared interest in sustainable tourism, year-round travel, and promoting each destination’s natural and cultural attractions. From Azerbaijan’s rich cultural heritage and mountain landscapes to Albania’s Mediterranean coastline and historic towns, the cooperation offers opportunities to introduce travelers to new experiences in both countries.
As a next step, a follow-up visit was planned to continue discussions and explore ways to turn shared priorities into practical initiatives. The ongoing engagement marked another step towards strengthening tourism ties between Azerbaijan and Albania, raising the international profile of both destinations, improving connectivity, and creating new opportunities for visitors to discover them.
