Washington, October 14, AZERTAC
The presentation of the English edition of the book “Iravan Through the Language of Historical Documents” by Professor Farida Safiyeva was held in New York, the U.S.
Based on historical documents, family archives, and rare photographs, the publication plays a crucial role in exploring Iravan’s history, examining the heritage of Azerbaijani families who once lived in the city, and sharing the legacies of their prominent figures with the international community.
Alyona Badalova, Director of the “My Way” Children and Youth Creative Development Center, opened the event by welcoming the guests.
Honored Artist, President of the Alliance of Azerbaijani American Organizations, Professor Nargiz Aliyarova informed the audience about the book, drawing attention to the author’s scientific creativity and multifaceted activity. She said that it is the third book on this theme written by Farida Safiyeva, who is the author of 13 books and over 90 scientific articles, adding that what makes it different is that it is mainly based on archival materials.
Subsequently, Professor Farida Safiyeva highlighted the history of the book, the scientific goals of the research, and the special place that the topic of Iravan holds in her life.
The author noted that her first two books dedicated to Iravan explored the city's history, the establishment of the Iravan Khanate, its architectural heritage, and the lives and contributions of 70 prominent intellectuals born or raised there.
The book presents the history of ten prominent families related to Iravan - the Aliyevs, the Topchubashovs, the Seyidzades, the Huseynovs, the Najafovs, the Ahmadovs, the Gaziyevs, the Mirbabayevs, and the Mirbaghirovs. The fact that the publication also includes documents related to the houses, where the families lived in Iravan, further enhances its significance as an academic source.
During the presentation, Farida Safiyeva also spoke about each family, highlighting lives and achievements of their notable figures.
Safiyeva emphasized that the primary goal of the research is to investigate Iravan’s role in the history of Azerbaijan, the heritage of the families that lived in the city, and the contributions of prominent personalities who hail from Iravan based on the documents, and to present historical facts with scientific analysis.
Speaking at the event, Elvin Ashrafzade, Deputy Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN, congratulated Professor Farida Safiyeva on the publication of the book, wishing her success in her future activities.
