Azerbaijan’s Deputy Defense Minister holds series of meetings on sidelines of ADEX 2026

On October 2, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Defense - Director General Agil Gurbanov met with Greg Sawyer, Head of the Office of the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs and Defense Policy, who visited Azerbaijan to attend ADEX 2026 – the 6th Azerbaijan International Defense Exhibition, the Ministry of Defense told AZERTAC.
Director General Agil Gurbanov highlighted Azerbaijan’s commitment to military cooperation with the United States and the successful participation of Azerbaijani servicemen in peacekeeping operations.
Greg Sawyer expressed appreciation for his visit to Azerbaijan and the hospitality extended to him, and hailed the current level of bilateral cooperation in the defense, security, and military-technical fields.
The sides discussed upgrading next-generation technology infrastructure, exchanging experience in the production of modern defense equipment, and expanding military-technical cooperation, as well as other technical issues.
Head of the U.S. Military Group at the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan, 2nd Rank Captain Christopher Familetti also attended the meeting.
On the sidelines of ADEX 2026, Director General Agil Gurbanov also met with Adviser to the President of Romania on National Security and Foreign Policy Marius-Gabriel Lazurca, and Director General of South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration and head of the Advanced Technology Program Department, Geunyung Park. The sides held an extensive exchange of views on the production of UAVs, armed unmanned surface vessels, and maritime systems, as well as on a number of issues of common interest in the defense industry.
