On September 25, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with a Tajik delegation led by Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, who is visiting Azerbaijan.
Sahiba Gafarova noted that the visit serves as a significant reflection of the friendly Azerbaijan-Tajikistan relations based on mutual respect, good-neighborly relations, mutual support and trust. She emphasized that ties between the two peoples, united by common national, spiritual and cultural values, have further strengthened since independence and elevated to the level of strategic partnership.
She emphasized that since diplomatic relations were established in 1992, high-level reciprocal visits and regular political dialogue have played a crucial role in fostering Azerbaijan-Tajikistan ties. The Declaration on Strategic Partnership was highlighted as a key document in bilateral cooperation.
The meeting also focused on increasing trade turnover, expanding economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and developing interparliamentary ties. The Speaker highlighted the importance of the Agreement on Cooperation between the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, signed in Baku in March 2022.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova also briefed the guests on ongoing reconstruction efforts in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories and the return of people to their native homes.
Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda shared his impressions of his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev and reaffirmed Tajikistan’s strong interest in developing relations with Azerbaijan. He underscored that Baku’s transformation into a venue for major international events reflected Azerbaijan’s stability and socio-economic development. Rasulzoda praised Azerbaijan’s achievements under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership, highlighting the initialing of the peace agreement with Armenia.
The sides also noted that direct Baku-Dushanbe flights and bilateral projects had boosted trade turnover and exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
