A commemorative event marking September 27, Remembrance Day, was held at the Azerbaijan Cultural Centre in France. Diplomats from the Embassy of Azerbaijan in France and the country’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, along with active members of the Azerbaijani diaspora, attended the event.
The martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s independence and territorial integrity were honored with a minute of silence.
The event continued with remarks by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to France Leyla Abdullayeva, Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Fakhraddin Ismayilov, and Military Attaché of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces Colonel Javid Abdullayev.
The speakers noted that the 2020 Patriotic War marked a significant turning point in Azerbaijan’s modern history, highlighting national unity, heroism, and commitment to statehood. They highlighted Azerbaijan’s years-long diplomatic efforts to present its position internationally, noting that the 2020 war marked a new stage in this process. Under President and Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Army demonstrated professionalism and heroism, while national unity contributed to the victory.
They also stressed that the victory came at a heavy cost, with thousands of servicemen sacrificing their lives for the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
The speakers noted that the 2023 anti-terrorism measures marked an important stage in restoring the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, creating a new historical reality. The speakers emphasized that this achievement was the result of years of diplomatic efforts, state strategy, a strengthened Armed Forces, and national solidarity, and stressed the importance of preserving this history and passing it on to future generations.
The event concluded with a screening of AZTV’s film “Like a Dream.”
