“We strongly condemn an appeal by Armenian civil society representatives to diplomatic missions and international organizations, which echoes rhetoric and narratives from before 2020,” the Western Azerbaijan Community said in a statement.
“Terms, including “occupation”, “genocide”, “ethnic cleansing”, “use of force,” the “destruction and falsification of historical and cultural heritage,” had been an integral part of Armenia’s state policy towards Azerbaijan for the past three decades.
Although Azerbaijan has put an end to the occupation, the country continues to face the conflict's major consequences: widespread destruction, threat posed by landmines and the issue of missing persons.
We also remind the authors of the statement that Armenia’s pattern of deflecting blame onto Azerbaijan while denying its own state responsibility and crimes is doomed to failure. As Western Azerbaijanis, we will never let our historical and cultural heritage, including the Blue Mosque, the Sardar Palace, the grave of Dada Alasgar, and our Albanian-Christian heritage, be forgotten, which was destroyed or misattributed on Armenian territory.
We call on the Armenian authorities to refrain from statements and actions that are completely contrary to peace and normalization, and to prepare society for peace. We also urge the Armenian society to abandon revanchism and the 'Maybe they returned' illusion," the statement added.
