Prime Minister: Azerbaijan’s strategic foreign currency reserves stand at approximately $91 billion

Baku, September 24, AZERTAC

Macroeconomic and financial stability has been maintained in Azerbaijan during the current year despite global economic risks, with key macroeconomic indicators remaining stable, Prime Minister Ali Asadov said during discussions at the Cabinet of Ministers.
The Prime Minister emphasized that overall economic growth was secured notwithstanding lower output and growth rates in the oil and gas sector. In January–August 2026, real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased by 1.2 percent, driven by a 2.1 percent expansion in the non-oil and gas sector, while oil and gas GDP contracted by 0.8 percent. Meanwhile, capital investments directed toward fixed assets grew by 10 percent.
"Currently, our country’s strategic foreign currency reserves stand at approximately $91 billion. This figure is nearly 20 times higher than our external public debt. As of September 1, our direct external public debt amounted to $4.5 billion, representing 5.6 percent of projected GDP. In the first eight months of 2026, the foreign trade balance surplus exceeded $10 billion," Ali Asadov noted.
