Baku, July 20, AZERTAC he Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) have conducted a joint fighter jet patrol to safeguard the shared border region between the two Southeast Asian nations, according to Antara.The operation, dubbed the Malaysia-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (Malindo) Siri I 2026, was carried out on Wednesday, July 15, according to an official statement released on Monday."The joint patrol is part of our bilateral cooperation aimed at enhancing airspace security while strengthening ties between the two air forces," TNI AU spokesperson First Marshal I Nyoman Suadnyana said in the statement.He noted that each air force deployed two fighter jets for the mission. The TNI AU dispatched F-16 Fighting Falcons from Air Squadron 16, while the RMAF utilized F/A-18 Hornets."The RMAF operated two F/A-18 Hornets for the air patrol, alongside a third aircraft tasked with documenting the operation," Suadnyana added.During the mission, the US-made fighter aircraft patrolled over several areas along the maritime border shared by Indonesia and Malaysia.Suadnyana said that the patrol concluded smoothly and safely, noting that the entire operation was executed in strict adherence to aviation safety protocols to ensure the well-being of the pilots and the security of the aircraft.He expressed optimism that such joint initiatives would continue to strengthen bilateral relations and effectively uphold the territorial sovereignty of both nations.
