


Delegation of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis holds meetings in Lefkoşa

A delegation from the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan visited Lefkoşa to attend events marking the anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, conducted by the Turkish Armed Forces in 1974 to prevent systematic pressure and massacres targeting the Turkish Cypriot community. During the visit, the parliamentary delegation held high-level discussions with Ziya Öztürkler, Speaker of the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), and Ünal Üstel, Prime Minister of the TRNC.
The first meeting took place at the Assembly of the TRNC with Speaker Ziya Öztürkler. The Azerbaijani delegation included Javanshir Feyziyev, Head of the Working Group on Azerbaijan–TRNC Inter-Parliamentary Relations; Ahliman Amiraslanov, Head of the Working Group on Azerbaijan–Türkiye Inter-Parliamentary Relations; Arzu Naghiyev, Chairman of the Committee on Defense, Security and Counter-Corruption; Jala Aliyeva, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs; as well as Members of Parliament Agalar Valiyev and Heydar Asadov.
The sides emphasized the vital importance of continuously deepening the fraternal ties and strategic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Northern Cyprus. Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot people, Speaker Ziya Öztürkler acknowledged President Ilham Aliyev and Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova for their unwavering political and moral support. In response, Javanshir Feyziyev highlighted that bilateral relations are expanding rapidly across various sectors, anchored in the principles of shared history and brotherhood.
The parliamentary delegation was subsequently received by TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel. Recalling his previous visits to Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Üstel conveyed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Ali Asadov, and Speaker Sahiba Gafarova.
The meeting featured an in-depth exchange of views on unleashing the untapped potential to broaden economic and trade ties between Azerbaijan and Northern Cyprus, alongside concrete opportunities for enhanced cooperation in higher education, tourism, and healthcare.
