Sergey Lavrov: Necessary conditions have been created for launching practical phase on Rasht-Astara railway section

Moscow, July 17, AZERTAC
Moscow, Baku and Tehran will launch the practical implementation of the Rasht-Astara railway section of the "North-South" International Transport Corridor once the issue of land allocation in Iran is resolved, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in response to AZERTAC correspondent’s question at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov following the negotiations in Moscow.
“In light of the ongoing crisis around the Strait of Hormuz and its disruptive effects on global transport routes and the economy, the situation regarding our trilateral project is encouraging,” the Russian FM noted.
According to Lavrov, the Iranian side has recently announced the completion of the process of allocating land for the Rasht-Astara section, which has been the key obstacle to launching the construction for several years.
The minister said that the heads of the Russian, Azerbaijani and Iranian railways had already met to discuss practical steps to start construction phase under new conditions. "Since the issue of the allocation of land has already been resolved, we can launch practical work. I think we will see the interest of all the parties," the Russian FM emphasized.
