Baku, July 7, AZERTAC “Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement in helping de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran has underscored an important principle of international relations: sustainable peace is achieved through dialogue rather than confrontation. Recent diplomatic developments indicate that Islamabad served as an important communication bridge between Washington and Tehran, facilitating contacts at a time when mistrust threatened regional stability,” Aqsa Sarfraz, a Pakistani expert and freelance journalist focusing on political and diplomatic affairs, told AZERTAC.According to her, the government of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, supported by the country’s diplomatic and security leadership, projected Pakistan as a credible interlocutor capable of engaging both sides constructively.“A notable aspect of these efforts was the role attributed to Field Marshal Asim Munir. Reports indicate that his engagements with senior Iranian officials and communication with American counterparts contributed to maintaining channels for dialogue during a highly sensitive period. While lasting peace ultimately depends on the decisions of the United States and Iran themselves, Pakistan’s ability to encourage communication reflected strategic diplomacy and regional responsibility rather than military posturing,” the expert said.Sarfraz also cited Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of independent Pakistan, as saying: “Peace within and peace without can only be achieved through mutual respect and justice,” adding that these words resonate strongly with Pakistan’s efforts to promote dialogue over conflict.“Pakistan’s mediation demonstrates that middle powers can play a meaningful role in addressing global crises when they maintain credibility with all parties involved. Although significant challenges remain before any peace process can be considered durable, Islamabad’s diplomatic initiative has enhanced its international profile as a responsible stakeholder in regional security,” she added.
