Moscow, February 27, AZERTAC The Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia held a commemorative event marking the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.The ceremony was attended by heads and staff of diplomatic missions in Russia, military attaches, cultural and artistic figures from Azerbaijan and Russia, medical and education specialists, as well as members of the Azerbaijani community and Azerbaijani students studying in Russian universities.Welcoming the guests, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Rahman Mustafayev recalled the atrocities committed by Armenian armed forces on the night of February 26, 1992, when 613 civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, were killed, 487 were permanently disabled, and many went missing.The ambassador also highlighted the “Justice for Khojaly!” international campaign, initiated by Leyla Aliyeva in 2008, aimed at raising awareness about the Garabagh conflict and encouraging political and legal recognition of the genocide.Following the official ceremony, a documentary on the Khojaly tragedy and a short version of the new film “ANAMA” by Azerbaijani director Murad Ibrahimbayov, focusing on the work of Azerbaijan’s Mine Action Agency, were screened.
