Azerbaijan’s Media Development Agency, Commission of Milli Majlis against Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats issue joint statement
Baku, November 1, AZERTAC
“It has been discovered that the most of the profiles conducting a large-scale active campaign on X platform against the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29), to be held in Azerbaijan, are using mass inauthentic accounts in a coordinated manner,” Azerbaijan’s Media Development Agency and Commission of Milli Majlis against Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats said in a joint statement.
“In an attempt to mislead public opinion those profiles are manipulating content through bot systems by simultaneously posting automated responses with the same content using the #COP29 hashtag.
In the run-up to COP29, the primary purpose of these activities arranged based on disinformation is to create the illusion of alleged mass discontent about Azerbaijan’s hosting of this event,” it noted.
It should be noted that an effective communication strategy regarding COP29 is being implemented, and the public is being promptly informed.
We call upon citizens and the international community to avoid being misled by deceptive information and to rely solely on official sources.
The Commission against Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats and the Media Development Agency urge X platform to investigate this information campaign,” the statement added.
