Culture Ministers of COP Presidencies Troika meet in Saint Petersburg
Baku, September 12, AZERTAC
The Ministers of Culture from COP28 United Arab Emirates (UAE), COP29 Azerbaijan and COP30 Brazil presidencies held a trilateral meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The primary goal of the meeting, attended by Azerbaijan's Minister of Culture Adil Karimli, UAE's Minister of Culture Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, and Brazil's Minister of Culture Margareth Menezes, was to define the program and format of the Second High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Culture, planned to be held as part of the forthcoming COP29.
Both ministers expressed their gratitude to Azerbaijan for consistently addressing climate issues and promoting them on the international stage.
The Culture Ministers of Brazil and the UAE, having reviewed the preparations for COP29, commended the progress made and expressed optimism that COP29 in Baku would be a landmark event.
The ministers exchanged views on the upcoming events, initiatives, including concerts and show program, that are planned dfor COP29.
Since COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, the role of culture in addressing climate change has become more prominent on the international agenda. It is worth noting that during COP28 in Dubai last year, the Emirates Declaration on Cultural-based Climate Action has been adopted under the presidency of the UAE and Brazil. The First High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Culture with the goal of consolidating international consensus on the need to put culture from arts to heritage at the heart of climate action, has been held within this framework, bringing together more than 30 ministers and government representatives, as well as heads and representatives of international organizations. Azerbaijan, in turn, has always paid special attention to this issue and is constantly working on its discussion at the global level.
