Dak Prescott makes NFL history with record-breaking contract
Baku, September 10, AZERTAC
Dak Prescott has become the highest-paid player in NFL history after signing a four-year, $240 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys, according to beIN Sports.
The new deal will pay Prescott $60 million per year, surpassing the annual salaries of Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals), Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars), and Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers), who each earn $55 million.
The contract extension will keep Prescott as the Cowboys' starting quarterback through the 2028 season, at which point he will be 35 years old.
This is Prescott's second extension with Dallas since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. His first extension, signed in 2021, was a four-year, $160 million deal.
The new contract was finalized just hours before the Cowboys' 2024 season opener against the Cleveland Browns.
Despite being criticized for not leading the Cowboys to a Super Bowl or an NFC Championship in nearly three decades, Prescott has impressive stats over his eight seasons with Dallas. He has thrown for 29,459 yards, 202 touchdowns, and 74 interceptions, earning three Pro Bowl selections and being named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2016.
This is the second major contract the Cowboys have handed out ahead of the 2024 season. On August 26, they signed star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to a four-year, $136 million deal, making him the second-highest-paid receiver in the NFL.
Now, with Prescott as the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history and Lamb as a top-earning wide receiver, the Cowboys have locked in two of their biggest stars for the foreseeable future.
