IDEA organizes “Let’s release bison into nature!” environmental summer camp
Baku, August 5, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan’s Ismayilli district hosted an environmental summer camp titled “Let’s release bison into nature!”. The event is part of the “Reintroduction of bison in Azerbaijan” project, initiated by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Founder of IDEA Public Association.
The camp was co-organized by the IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) Public Association, Azerbaijan Youth Foundation, the Azerbaijan Representation of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Children-Youth Development Center of the Ministry of Education and Science, as part of the "Green World Solidarity Year". It brought together 30 schoolchildren from Gabala and Ismayilli districts.
The summer camp’s main goal is to raise awareness among schoolchildren about the importance of conserving bison, which are set to be released into the wild, and to educate them about the environment, nurturing responsibility and love for nature.
Since 2012, the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Azerbaijan office have worked intensively to reintroduce bison into the wild in Azerbaijan.
Between 2019 and 2024, 46 bison have been brought to Azerbaijan from Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, increasing the number of bison in Shahdag National Park to 61.
