Lisbon, April 17, AZERTAC Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Holy See and Portugal Ilgar Mukhtarov has presented his credentials to Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Ambassador Ilgar Mukhtarov conveyed President Ilham Aliyev’s greetings to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Noting that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to bilateral relations with Portugal, the ambassador said Azerbaijan is planning to open a diplomatic office of the country’s embassy in Lisbon soon.Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa asked the diplomat to extend his greetings to the President of Azerbaijan, adding that he would be pleased to meet with President Ilham Aliyev soon.The credential presentation ceremony was held at the historic Belém Palace, the 16th-century royal palace serving as the Official Residence of the President of Portugal.
