Azerbaijan, EU discuss current state and prospects for developing relations

Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met Tuesday with the EU Special Representative (EUSR) for Central Asia Terhi Hakala.
The discussions focused on the current state and prospects for developing relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, Azerbaijan`s role in the relations between Central Asia and the EU, as well as cooperation within the international platforms and formats.
The meeting also saw discussions on agreement achieved with the European Union in the field of energy security, communications and transport as well as relations with the Central Asia.
The two stressed the importance of cooperation on the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the field of energy between Azerbaijan and the EU. The memorandum envisages joint activity in the field of energy security, as well as development of the alternative energy resources.
During the meeting, Hakala was briefed on Azerbaijan's initiatives concerning the development of transportation and communications, including activities in the port of Baku.
The parties also exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
