Azerbaijani FM addresses Nuclear Energy Summit

During his working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov participated in and delivered a speech at the Nuclear Energy Summit.
Minister Bayramov touched upon the issues related to Azerbaijan's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and outlined the country's stance on the theme of the event.
Minister Bayramov emphasized that the inclusion of nuclear energy as one of the methods for "reducing greenhouse gas emissions" in the text of the Global Stocktake of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) is a significant outcome of global efforts aimed at ensuring the safe utilization of nuclear energy.
In this regard, he praised the commendable activities of the IAEA aimed at studying the impact of nuclear energy on the environment, mentioning initiatives such as "Atoms4Climate."
Addressing the potential of technical cooperation with the IAEA in the utilization of nuclear technology, Minister Bayramov elaborated on the significance of the framework document, the "Country Framework Programme," for the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Providing extensive information about Azerbaijan's experience in the use of nuclear technology at the national level, Jeyhun Bayramov noted that joint efforts with the IAEA are underway to explore the possibility of applying nuclear technology to address one of the country's most pressing challenges - mine threat. He emphasized that Azerbaijan's priority in this area is to pay special attention to nuclear safety while exploring the potential of atomic energy utilization.
Minister Bayramov affirmed that alongside mobilizing resources for the peaceful utilization of nuclear technology in combating climate change, Azerbaijan will prioritize nuclear safety during its presidency at COP29. He expressed confidence that the potential contribution of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to these efforts will play a significant role.
