Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva informs Russian Ambassador about demining process in Azerbaijan

Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva has met with newly appointed Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the country Mikhail Yevdokimov.
Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva briefed the Ambassador about her activity in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms. She also highlighted the latest amendments made to the Constitution Law on Ombudsman, saying that her mandate has been expanded in the fields of protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and children, as well as ensuring the right to equality and preventing discrimination.
Sabina Aliyeva then underscored the institution’s activity within the international cooperation, including the close cooperation with her Russian counterpart.
The Ombudsperson informed M. Yevdokimov about the ongoing reconstruction and restoration works, as well as demining activities carried out in the liberated Azerbaijani territories. The Ombudsman emphasized that during the war and post-war period, the on-site fact-finding missions had been carried out by the Ombudsman Office, with the participation of the international independent experts to investigate violations of norms and principles of international humanitarian law. According to her, 18 reports based on the results of those investigations had been compiled and submitted to the relevant international and regional organizations.
The meeting also saw discussions on prospects for further strengthening of cooperation between the Ombudsman institutions of Azerbaijan and Russia.
