China box office: ‘Oppenheimer’ enjoys $30m launch in five days while ‘Gran Turismo’ falters

Baku, September 4, AZERTAC

“Oppenheimer” topped the box office in mainland China, an impressive result for a Hollywood film in the current climate. More typically, the Gran Turismo game adaptation wasn’t far from the starting line, according to US Today.
While most films in China start on Fridays, Christopher Nolan’s nuclear opus was widely released from Wednesday.
According to consulting firm Artisan Gateway, the store brought in $21.3 million (RMB 154 million) in revenue over the traditional Friday-Sunday weekend and $30.7 million (RMB 221 million) in the first five days. Local data providers show the film topped the charts for all five days of play.
Universal Pictures reports that the film ran on 35,000 screens at 11,000 locations in China, including 761 Imax venues.
Local data providers estimate that “Gran Turismo” made just $1.2 million compared to its more conventional three-day excursion.
Universal claimed that “Oppenheimer” is behind the established franchise films this year, “Nearly comparable comparisons of the first (Friday through Sunday) weekend show “Oppenheimer” open up a bigger opening than titles like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, ” Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Barbie. ”
Universal said it was the second-largest launch of a Nolan film in the Chinese market, behind Interstellar at 17%. Imax said that “Oppenheimer”: “736 Imax screens accounted for a third of the total opening in China.”
