Aghdam, August 14, AZERTAC
A group of Turkish media representatives visited the liberated from Armenian occupation the city of Aghdam as part of their trip to Azerbaijan’s Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur regions on Monday.
AZERTAC’s regional correspondent reports that the delegation first visited the Aghdam Juma Mosque. An employee of the Special Representative Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan informed the journalists about the war crimes committed by Armenians, the destruction of Azerbaijan’s cultural, historical and religious monuments as well as the restoration and reconstruction works carried out by Azerbaijan following the liberation of Aghdam.
Built in 1868, the mosque was desecrated, burned and vandalized during the Armenian occupation. The Armenian occupants used the mosque as a cattle barn. They were briefed about the history of Aghdam, the current situation, Armenian fascism unleashed in the district, as well as the vandalism against Azerbaijan's historical, religious and cultural sites. Before the Armenian occupation Aghdam was one of the largest and most developed cities not only in the Karabakh region, but also in the entire country. However, after the city was seized by Armenia on July 23, 1993, all the residential infrastructure, including residential buildings, kindergartens, schools, hospitals, production facilities were destroyed and looted, as well as cemeteries, historical and cultural monuments were subjected to Armenian vandalism.
The journalists then familiarized themselves with the Aghdam-Khankendi and the newly built Barda-Aghdam highways as well as the multi-apartment residential area built in the city of Aghdam.
