Azerbaijani, Spanish FMs discuss current developments in region

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has today met with Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain Jose Manuel Albares Bueno on the sidelines of the 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe held in Reykjavik, Iceland.
The meeting saw discussions on topical issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Spain, as well as current developments in the region.
Touching upon bilateral cooperation agenda in political, energy, economic, cultural, humanitarian, energy security, tourism and other spheres, Minister Bayramov noted that there are vast prospects for further development. He also noted the opportunities for cooperation in sphere of development of alternative energy resources.
The pair also stressed the importance of increasing contacts and reciprocal visits for development of bilateral relations and strengthening of political dialogue.
FM Bayramov also briefed the Spanish counterpart about the current situation in the region during the post-conflict era, reconstruction projects implemented by Azerbaijan, as well as the country’s peace efforts. He also described Armenia’s continuous military provocations and ongoing mine threats as main challenges hindering the peaceful process. He said that Azerbaijan is committed to peace process based on principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno expressed his country’s interest to cooperate with Azerbaijan both on in a bilateral format and within international organizations. He also hailed the role of political consultations in the development of relations between the two countries. He also expressed Spain’s support for normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
