OIC Secretary General calls for more participation of women and girls in education, training, science and technology

On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science celebrated, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) H. E. Hissein Brahim Taha has called upon Member States and relevant OIC institutions to intensify efforts in ensuring the rights of all women and girls in science and technology, and to strengthen international cooperation, raise awareness about the rights of women and girls in science and technology, according to the organization’s official website.
The OIC’s 8th Ministerial Conference on Women held in December 2018 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso adopted the resolution promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education for women and girls. The resolution “urged Member States to take legislative and executive measures to offer STEM programs for women and girls, with the view to bridge the gap between women’s education and the demands of the labor market, and invited the Member States to cooperate and coordinate within the OIC, their policies and programs in this field.”
The Secretary-General indicated that this day is an opportunity to follow up on the full implementation of the said OIC resolution in order to promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls.
