France to consider training Ukrainian fighter jet pilots
Baku, January 31, AZERTAC
France is considering Ukraine’s request for fighter-jet pilot training, per an aide to French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecorn, according to Politico, Ukrinform news agency reports.
The French and Ukrainian defense ministers are due to discuss the request during a call this week.
Also, Oleksii Reznikov, Ukraine’s defense chief, will visit Paris on Tuesday, where he will meet his French counterpart, who on January 26 issued the relevant invitation.
In an interview with the daily French newspaper Le Figaro on Friday, Reznikov called on Paris to help train its pilots on French planes.
In recent days, several European and U.S. officials have indicated that the door was no longer closed to sending fighter jets to Ukraine.
President Emmanuel Macron of France also admits that the issue is on the table.
“Nothing is ruled out on principle,” he said following talks with the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
