Gareth Bale to play PGA Tour Golf Pro-Am event in February following retirement from football
Baku, January 24, AZERTAC
Gareth Bale has revealed he will play in a PGA Tour event, two weeks on from his retirement as a footballer, according to Eurosport.
Bale was widely known as a keen golfer during his football career, infamously celebrating behind a flag which read “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order” when his country qualified for Euro 2020.
He will take part in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California on February 2-5 which will feature US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick, Jordan Spieth, Luke Donald and 156 amateur golfers.
“Delighted to announce I will be playing in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at the start of next month! Let’s go,” Bale said on Instagram.
The 33-year-old left Real Madrid at the end of last season, before joining Los Angeles FC in MLS where he helped his side win the MLS Cup with a last minute header that sent the match to a penalty shootout, which they won.
He led Wales to a first World Cup in 64 years, scoring their only goal in Qatar during their 1-1 draw against the United States in their opener.
They dramatically lost to Iran 2-0 before being defeated by England 3-0 which ended their World Cup dreams in the group stage and turned out to be Bale’s final game.
