Baku, January 9, AZERTAC

A bus traveling from the Uganda-Kenya border to the Kenyan capital Nairobi got involved in an accident on Saturday night, killing 21 people, police in Uganda and Kenya confirmed on Sunday, according to Anadolu Agency.
The accident took place around 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) from the border town of Lwakhakha, which stretches into the two countries.
The police commander of Lwakhakha in Uganda Moses Mulalira Mule told Anadolu Agency that the majority of people on the bus were Ugandans who had boarded the bus to travel to Nairobi.
He said he rushed to the scene and saw that the bus had overturned with some people still alive and dead bodies trapped inside. He said that by the time he left, some dead bodies had been removed and efforts to remove others were going on.
Uganda radio network has quoted Patrick Kitau, the police commander of the Bungoma District in Kenya, saying that the crash occurred around 8 p.m. (1700GMT) on Saturday in Lwakhakha, Kenyan side, 3 kilometers from the Uganda-Kenya border.
According to Kitau, the bus, belonging to the Nairobi Bus Company, was traveling from Lwakhaka to Nairobi which veered off the road and overturned several times.
He said a preliminary investigation revealed that the cause of the crash was over-speeding.
Kitau also said they are establishing the identities of the deceased crash victims, but confirmed that the majority of them are Ugandan nationals.
The bodies are currently at the Chepteyis and Lwandanyi hospital morgues, to be identified by their relatives, while the injured are receiving treatment at the same hospitals, he added.
According to an eyewitness, the bus was moving at a high speed and failed to negotiate a small corner and veered off the road.
