Canada's Wood Buffalo National Park - UNESCO World Heritage site, home to North America's largest population of wild bison
Baku, November 15, AZERTAC
Located on the plains in the north-central region of Canada, the Wood Buffalo National Park, covering 44,807 km2 (4,480,000 ha), is home to North America's largest population of wild bison.
The park’s huge tracts of boreal forest also provide crucial habitat for a diverse range of other species, including the endangered whooping crane.
Moreover, the property is a place of superlative natural phenomena - the continued evolution of a large inland delta, salt plains and gypsum karst.
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983, the size of the park enables the protection of entire ecosystems and the ecosystem features considered as the basis for the park’s Outstanding Universal Value.
