Int’l Coastal Cleanup Day: IDEA, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Azerbaijan Youth Foundation and “Clean City” launch beach clean-up campaign in Baku

The International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) Public Union, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Azerbaijan Youth Foundation and “Clean City” (Tamiz Shahar) OJSC have co-organized a cleanup campaign on Bilgah beach as part of the global annual International Coastal Cleanup Day.
Held under the moto “Let’s keep beaches clean”, the campaign brought together more than 150 youth volunteers and representatives of partner organizations.
The main purpose of the event is to promote the observance of cleanliness on the beaches, prevent pollution of coastal areas with household waste, as well as involve the young people in the struggle to protect marine environment.
The campaign participants, supplied with all the required sanitary equipment, collected waste, sorting and determining which the most common types of waste were found on the beach, then delivering them to the Balakhani Solid Waste Sorting Plant in special vehicles.
On the initiative of Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) Public Union Leyla Aliyeva, several public beaches have been created on the shore of the Caspian Sea in Baku, namely on Shikh, Goradil, Novkhani, Buzovna, Pirshaghi and Sahil beaches.
IDEA Public Union urges everyone to strictly follow the sanitary and hygienic rules, and keep beaches clean, not to pollute the environment and to make sure that there is no trash left behind.
The IDEA aims to restore and preserve the country’s biodiversity, ensure its sustainable development, promote green economy and application of eco-friendly technologies, as well as contribute to the ecological balance through expanding green spaces and tackling pollution.
