Azerbaijani FM meets with leaders of American Jewish Committee

Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with leaders and representatives of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the coalition of American Jewish organizations on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Exchange of views took place on the matters of cooperation with Jewish organizations in the United States, future prospects, as well as the regional situation. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted the importance attached by Azerbaijan to establishing close relations with Jewish communities all over the world and emphasized the existence of a number of synagogues, schools, and cultural centers in Azerbaijan. The views on the latest situation in the South Caucasus, as well as the steps taken in the post-conflict period after the Patriotic War were exchanged. FM Bayramov informed his interlocutors on the large-scale restoration and construction work carried out by Azerbaijan in the territories liberated from the occupation of Armenia, and spoke about the purposeful destruction of territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia during the occupation, as well as the looting of cultural heritage.
The traditions of interreligious harmony, tolerance and multiculturalism, and life in mutual understanding of Christians, Jews and people belonging to other religions in Azerbaijan with a majority Muslim population were noted with satisfaction by the Jewish organizations. It was noted that additional strength to the development of strong partnership relations between Azerbaijan and Israel is bestowed by the existence of the Jewish community living in peace and tranquility in Azerbaijan for many centuries.
At the meeting, views were also exchanged on the development prospects of Azerbaijan's relations with the United States of America.
