Baku, August 11, AZERTAC Author Emine Sevgi Özdamar will receive the Georg Büchner Prize 2022. In awarding her the prize, the “German Academy for Language and Literature is honouring an outstanding author to whom German language and literature owes new horizons, themes and a highly poetic sound,” the jury announced in its statement. Born in Turkey on 10 August 1946, the writer, actress and theatre director has been enriching the German-language literary scene with her novels, stories and plays for over three decades. Özdamar is the twelfth woman to receive the award.The prize, which is endowed with 50,000 euros, will be presented at a ceremony on 5 November. It is one of the most important literary awards in the German-speaking world. Since 1951, the Academy has awarded the prize to writers who write in German. According to the Academy’s statutes, prize-winners must “stand out in a special way through their works” and “have made a significant contribution to shaping contemporary German cultural life”.
