Baku, June 6, AZERTAC The State Security Service and the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan continue to take joint operative and investigative measures as part of the fight against the smuggling and illegal circulation of narcotic substances.According to the joint statement of the press services of the State Security Service and the State Border Service, a national of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a resident of Sabirabad district, Atashov Rahim Haji oglu, born in 1987, was detained when he was carrying large quantities of a narcotic substance – 37,55 kilograms of dried marijuana in the cargo area of his vehicle on the basis of the information that a group of accomplices, including citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, were engaged in the illegal turnover of drugs.Following the investigation, the nationals of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mehriban Latif Mohsen, born in 1966, and Parsa Jaffarlou Amrrza Ramazan, born in 1980, who had no identity documents on them, were detained at the state border. It was established that the two had illegally crossed the state border, carried large quantities of drugs to the Republic of Azerbaijan and passed them to Rahim Atashov in Imishli district. It became known that Latif Mehriban had earlier been detained in the Republic of Azerbaijan for committing the same deeds in 2008 and had been sentenced to 15 years in prison. In 2014, he was handed over to the country, in which he has citizenship, so that he can serve the remainder of his prison term there. After being freed before his prison term ended in the Islamic Republic of Iran, he continued the same criminal deeds.On the basis of the criminal case conducted at the State Security Service over this fact, Rahim Atashov was brought to criminal account in accordance with Articles 206.3.2 (smuggling of narcotic substances by a group of accomplices), 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 (illegal acquisition, storage, transportation and sale of large quantities of narcotic substances by a group of accomplices for the purpose of sale) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, while Latif Mehriban and Amrrza Parsa Jaffarlou, in addition to the abovementioned articles, were also brought to criminal justice in line with Article 318.2 (illegal crossing of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan by a group of accomplices) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Drastic measure of imprisonment was taken in relation to these people by a court order.
