Azerbaijan’s Dendrology Institute - part of World Botanical Garden

The Institute of Dendrology of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan was established in 1934. The territory where the Botanical garden is located was the personal garden of Murtuza Mukhtarov, a major philanthropist and oil millionaire in 1895-1920.
Currently, the Institute of Dendrology is part of the World Botanical Garden. Due to its natural and geographical features, the garden is similar to the climatic zones of Africa, Asia, Europe and America. Samples of about 1,500 species of various plant seeds from different regions of the world brought here.
Two museums have been created on the territory: the Botanical Museum of Academician Vavilov and the Museum of the poet Sergei Yesenin.
